Te Kāpehu Auaha is a philosophy for  discovery — finding direction, unlocking possibility and creating what comes next.
It challenges us to recognise what guides us, trust what we carry, and venture beyond the known to discover what’s possible.

The original tohu was created in the colours of golden hour — sunrise and sunset, when light transforms the world and everything feels full of possibility.

A tohu of direction, discovery and the courage to venture beyond the known.

Discover the Kaupapa

The aroha and tohu originated one summer afternoon on a post-it note! Inspired by life long kaitiaki Whai & Manu carried in taa moko of its creator and the kāpehu whetu located in Whaingaroa.

He Taonga Tuku Iho, He Koha Tuku Atu

All our kaupapa are taonga given in reflection of who we are, to honour those who continue legacies, and to  encourage the journey still ahead: a reminder that what we carry matters, what we create has impact, and there is always more to discover with a good heart.

Ngā Kaitiaki
The Guidance

“Mai i te moana ki te rangi,
ki te wheiao ki te ao mārama.”

Te Kāpehu Auaha is encapsulated by two kaitiaki centered in the tohu.

The whai (stingray) — a guardian of the ocean, grounded in instinct and attuned to what lies beneath.
The manu (frigate bird) — a sign of land and home, rising above to see what lies beyond.

Together, they form whaimanu — a balance of sea and sky. Intentionally headed North East inside the compass - as a reflection of our many journeys from Aotearoa to the world.

The Way

Te Kāpehu Auaha is guided by:
Tohu — taking note of signs and instincts
Taiao — connecting to the world around us
Taonga — creating with care and meaning

Grounded in the intention of koha.

A commitment to give back, to support and acknowledge others, and to ensure our work contributes to community and social good.

It is a way of working that others can step into — by paying attention, connecting, and creating with intention.

The Expression

In collaboration with our good friends at KP Hūmarie Designs, a collection of limited medallion taonga were created as signature koha on the journey to key kaupapa such as FESTPAC 2024, Hokule'a 50th Anniversary 2025, Imaginative & Māorilands Film Festivals 2025.

These bespoke taonga are special acknowledgements — given with aroha, held with purpose. Te Kāpehu Auaha continues in this way in creating content & supporting kaupapa with heart.

It is something to continuously guide, learn and grow together.
